Rich holds a PhD in political science from the University of Connecticut and has taught courses at the United States Coast Guard Academy. Rich has lived, studied, and worked in Russia. He served 15 years in the United States Coast Guard and 25 years as an American intelligence officer in the CIA. Upon retirement, he was rewarded the Distinguished Career Intelligence Medal.”
