Level I Training in partnership with the WVAIA and WMTC
About this event
Learn how to do trail maintenance on the hikes you love! This in-depth training taught by professional trail workers will prepare you for doing level I trail maintenance with the Waterville Valley Athletic & Improvement Association in the future.
On Sunday, October 10, everyone will meet at 7:30 AM at the Livermore S Trailhead. We will be going out on the Timber Camp Trail after a short teaching component in the parking area. The day will end around 2:30 PM at the latest at the trailhead.
Everyone will hike 4 miles or more (at most 5.6 miles), on the Livermore Trail, Greeley Ponds Trail, and Timber Camp Trail combined. At most, the net elevation gain will be just shy of 1,000 feet, and the majority of the grades are easy. There are restrooms at the trailhead. The parking lot does have a fee but the WMTC will provide parking passes to use for the day.
Throughout the day WMTC staff will go over the big picture and minute details of trail maintenance, including clearing and re-shaping drainages, brushing, blowdown removal, proper tool use and safety, how trail users affect and respond to trail maintenance, where to go from here, and more.
Tools and personal protective equipment (eye protection, gloves, hard hats) will be provided by the WMTC, but if you have your own PPE we recommend that you bring it.
Please bring anything you need to hike safely, including:
Your own snacks
Bug spray/sunscreen
Any necessary medications for allergic reactions to vegetation or insects, etc.
Hiking boots (required for trail maintenance)
Pants (required for trail maintenance)
Face mask (required for non-vaccinated people when closer than 6 feet apart from anyone)
