Looking for the perfect spot to cool off this summer? Waterville Valley and its surrounding area offer some of the most picturesque swim spots in New Hampshire. From cascading waterfalls to crystal-clear rivers, there’s a place for everyone to enjoy a refreshing dip.

Corcoran Pond

Right in the heart of Waterville Valley, Corcoran Pond is a convenient family-friendly swimming spot. With a sandy beach and calm waters, it’s ideal for kids and adults alike. Swim out to the floating dock and have a cannon-ball contest, or simply lounge on the beach!

Tip From Locals: Corcoran Pond is home to cormorants, great blue herons, and even box turtles! The best time to spot these elusive creatures is in the early morning.

Cascade Falls

Cascade Falls is a local favorite. This enchanting series of waterfalls and natural pools is perfect for a refreshing swim on a hot day. Surrounded by lush greenery and the soothing sounds of cascading water, it’s a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle.

Tip From Locals: Ride up Snow's Mountain Chairlift to shorten your hike! The first waterfall and pool are only half a mile from the top of the chairlift!

Smarts Brook Swimming Hole

A local favorite, Smarts Brook Swimming Hole offers a pristine spot for a refreshing plunge. The clear, cool waters of Smarts Brook are surrounded by smooth rocks, creating a natural swimming pool. It’s an idyllic setting for those who love to swim in nature’s own creations.

Tip From Locals: Bring a picnic and enjoy a meal by the falls. The area around Smart’s Brook is perfect for a relaxed afternoon in nature. Need picnic supplies? Look no further than Jugtown Country Store!

Pemi River

The Pemigewasset River - or Pemi River as the locals call it - is a beloved spot for swimming and tubing. There are plenty of access points around Waterville Valley; the closest swimming area is in Campton along RT 49, near the intersection of RT 3.

Tip From Locals: Ski Fanatics offers tubing shuttles! Providing tubes (single and double), floating coolers, and life jackets, Ski Fanatics will also shuttle you to the river, drop you off, and pick you up once you're all done. Reservations are recommended.

Eddy Day Use Area

Located just a short drive from Waterville Valley, the Eddy Day Use Area is a fantastic spot for a day of swimming and floating. The area features a beautiful stretch of the Mad River River with calm, shallow waters that are perfect for wading and swimming.

Tip From Locals: The river and beach area are rocky! Be sure to pack some river shoes! Stop by 1829 Outfitters in Town Square to purchase some river-wading slides.

Livermore Falls

Livermore Falls Recreation Area is a beautiful and popular swim spot. The recreation area offers river swimming, canoe and kayak launching, BBQ grills, picnic tables, and pit toilets, making it an ideal spot for a family outing. Operated by NH State Parks, the Livermore Falls is open 9am-6pm, and visitors must pay a fee of $5 per car. You can make a reservation before arriving at the park as parking is limited (especially on nice weekends and holidays).

Tip From Locals:  Parking is limited - make a reservation before arriving at Livermore Falls (especially on nice weekends and holidays).

Blair Covered Bridge

Take a step back in time and swim beneath the historic Blair Covered Bridge. The bridge, originally built in 1829, spans the Pemi River and offers a unique swimming experience. When the river waters are low (normally around mid-summer), you can wade all the way across the river!

Tip From Locals: Don’t forget your camera! The Blair Covered Bridge provides a stunning backdrop for memorable photos.

Campton Falls

Easily accessible from RT 175, Campton Falls is one of the largest waterfalls in the area. This traditional block-type waterfall is surrounded by pine and hemlock trees, offering a serene spot to soak up the sun. At the base of the falls, there are two swimming holes, where you can wade in the revitalizing waters of the Beebe River.

Tip From Locals: To access the swimming areas, you follow a short but very steep trail down to the falls. We recommend packing shoes with good tread. This spot is not recommended for young children or pregnant women.

Waterville Valley and its surrounding areas are brimming with natural swim spots, each offering its own unique charm and beauty. Whether you’re looking for a peaceful pool beneath a waterfall or a fun-filled day by the river, there’s a swim spot waiting for you. So grab your swimsuit, pack a picnic, and dive into the refreshing waters of Waterville Valley! See you by the water!
