Francois Bessing is the Rey Center 2019 Artist in Residence
The Margret and H.A. Rey Center Artist Residency offers artists of all media an opportunity to pursue and share their art and artistic process while surrounded by the inspiring landscape of the village of Waterville Valley, NH. Through the Curious George Cottage Artist Residency, they provide an outlet for the creative spark that ignites an individual or entire community to embrace the arts as an essential part of daily life. This Program is supported by the Curious George Foundation.
François Bessing is a Puerto Rican/Cameroonian Bass-Baritone, songwriter, lyricist, who co-founded SocoPop Records LLC, a music publishing and distribution company. Two of his original songs were licensed by Spotify executives for industry placement, two different songs were incorporated into the 2018/2019 TIGER tour in the show “Brand New Day”, and he along with his band were featured on regional radio where they also performed live. He has been grateful to learn from the great Cathy Chemi of the Harry James band, the unmatched opportunity to sing for Patti Labelle onstage, and the great honor of singing backup for Kenny Rogers at his Christmas concert in Reading, Pennsylvania.
Residency Dates: July 13th-July 27th.
His schedule during his residency is as follows (we will be submitting a longer article in the Wigwag regarding Francois as well):
July 13th 4:30 pmChamber Music in the Garden - Francois will be introduced
July 18th 2pm-7 pm - Songwriting Session
The Songwriting session is an opportunity extended to 5 budding songwriters who wish to turn their lyrics, poems, or ideas into recorded tracks. We will explore the presentation of concepts through words, phrasing, text placement, development of melody, and forms with their transitions. If more than 5 people are interested arrangements can be made to accommodate.
July 16th 5pm-8 pm - The Vocal MasterClass
This masterclass is an open house event where the community is invited to sit in and watch select singers/vocalists present songs of their choosing. Vocalists may sign up to perform and have me lead them through the vocal techniques I learned as a classically trained Bass-Baritone to strengthen their voices and their singing voice. The MasterClass will have as a goal to encourage the development of the human voice as a fine instrument with its own unique temperament and timbre.
July 19th 6 pm - The Rey Center Music Recital
This recital will be open to the public and community to display the performances of the materials learned in the Songwriting Session and the Vocal Masterclass. This evening of song and storytelling will be concluded with a meal allowing everyone to connect and continue to nurture the Spirit of Music as a community.
July 27 Solo Performance in Town Square
Francois will be performing between 6 pm-8 pm in Town Square during the Chocolate Fest!
