Culture and the Arts

Shakespeare in the Valley
Shakespeare in the Valley puts the "shake" back in Shakespeare. Professional actors perform on an outdoor stage in an interactive style evocative of Will Shakespeare's era. Actors often speak directly to the audience and the audience is encouraged to respond in turn! Introduce your kids to Shakespeare during interactive family matinees of Sugar Coated Shakespeare. "It's Shakespeare as Willie himself intended!" - The Boston Globe.

Margaret and H. A. Rey Center and the Curious George Cottage

The Rey's were not only writers and artists, they shared a passion for astronomy, photography, natural history, environmental action, gardening, and children's experiential learning. The Rey's life pursuits form the basis for programming at the Curious George Cottage and The Rey Center, a newly formed educational and cultural organization. Cottage and Rey Center programming includes astronomy & star gazing (in partnership with the Christa McAuliffe Planetarium in Concord, NH), naturalist guided hikes/walks, literary discussion group, writer's workshops, cultural field trips, gardening, children's programs, lectures, performances, and community gatherings.

It's here the 2007 WVAIA  Hiking Trail Map. Map CoverWVAIA
The Waterville Valley Athletic & Improvement Association (WVAIA) was formed in 1888 by a group of Waterville Valley summer vacationers. The organization's objective was "to encourage all healthful exercises and afford facilities thereto." In the early years, WVAIA members maintained the miles of hiking trails in and around Waterville Valley - the oldest network of hiking trails in North America - organized informal hikes and group picnics, tennis, golf and croquet tournaments, and hosted community socials. WVAIA, now a not-for-profit organization, has continued to fulfill its original mission and supports trail maintenance, fishing in the valley, sponsoring the honorable game of croquet, as well as hosting biannual social gatherings and supporting various causes in and around Waterville Valley.
Available at  several locations in Waterville Valley.
