An ardent admirer wrote in the Boston Journal “Trouting is a great attraction for the gentlemen, many brooks prolific in the spotted beauty emptying themselves into the main river”.

Contrary to popular belief, these opportunities still exist, but you need to know where to go, and you need to be ready to hike and camp out, because these kind of fish can be found in the remote mountain ponds of the White Mountain National Forest.
